My $20 Haircut @ A Robert Cromeans Salon in Pacific Beach

So when it comes to cutting hair, I get extremely nervous because almost every time I try a new salon something usually goes wrong. They either cut too much, or they don't cut enough, or they just do whatever they want. I'm usually too nice to make a fuss about it so I usually smile and act like I'm happy but when I'm out the door I'm in tears because I hate it so much. I've noticed that older Korean ladies tend to disappoint me the most. You tell them one thing and they do something else. I started resorting to cutting my own hair for awhile especially in San Diego because the few salons I went to were either really expensive or didn't do such a great job.

More recently a girlfriend of mine asked me to check out a Robert Cromeans Salon in PB with her. I was a little hesitant to try it out at first but she told me it was only $20 for a haircut and I happened to be in the mood for a little bit of change that day so I said okay. The greatest thing about this salon is they take walk-ins. It's actually called WALK-IN SALON. Most upscale salons are booked on weekends and it's almost impossible to book an appointment the day of. Even though every booth was filled, we were able to walk right in and book an appointment. We waited a little over an hour but it was fine because there are so many cute little boutique stores and restaurants next door.

When the hour wait was up I met my hairstylist Dario. He was extremely friendly and made this whole experience worth every penny! First he got me to change into my gown, then he sat me down on the chair and examined my hair. He asked me what I was looking for and then he gave me a few suggestions and wallah! We were done with the consultation part.

Now here comes the best part of the whole experience, he gave me the most amazing head/back/neck massage as he shampooed and conditioned my hair at what they call the "Lather Lounge". I was in Heaven... Just the massage alone was worth my $20. I guess every stylist is trained to give a massage to their clients so no matter who you get, it's included with your haircut! So amazing... I definitely recommend this place for that reason.

Dario brought me back to the chair and he spent a good amount of time brushing my hair out, cutting about an inch or so in the back, and then evening out my layers to give me a cleaner, softer, look. I really loved the Paul Mitchell products he used and his sense of humor as we talked about all kinds of fun things. I think a good stylist needs to be good with hair but most importantly, they need to be friendly people and make their customers feel comfortable enough to come back with more clients. I was worried they were using Paul Mitchell students at this salon because of the price but they were all very professional and the place looked very modern and chic. I was relieved to see I wasn't being used as a guinea pig.

So anyways, he took his time blowing drying and styling out my hair and gave me the perfect amount of layers I was looking for. A job well done! I gave Dario a huge hug, a big tip, and left the salon very happy.

Here is a picture of my new layers...
